The Body of work Haire produced for his degree show was entitled “Plastic Landscapes”.
The paintings, drawings and photographs investigated image deterioration and manipulation,
and the properties and possibilities of acrylic paint. Haires subject matter for
these paintings explored the desolate landscapes of Iceland in an attempt to subvert
traditional thoughts of what landscape painting is especially here in Ireland.
Haires Degree show was very successful and an encouraging time for the artist and
his work. He received the Royal Ulster Academy award for outstanding student which
included an invitation to exhibit at the 132nd RUA Show at the Ulster Museum. Haire
also did an interview for BBC2 NI program, The Arts Show, in which he talked a about
his work and time at university. Finally he was pleased to be able to have his work
in the Arts Council of Northern Ireland collection.
